About Me

Personal

My wife Betsy and I currently live in southern New Hampshire with Jazzy, our Japanese Akita, and Zelda, our reincarnated, ancient Egyptian goddess (more easily recognized as a cat).

Leisure

As seems to be the case for many of my friends, colleagues, and fellow technologists, I tend to dabble in photography. I've also been known to be a bit of a bookworm, chess geek, wannabe wine snob, and SCUBA aficionado.

Technology

I've programmed in most C-derived languages over the past 15 years, dabbled in Lisp, glanced at Ruby, and have experienced the horrors of COBOL, Fortran, Perl, and PHP — but my language of choice is Python. As an enthusiastic Pythonista since 2000, I've become an evangalist for the language, as well as frameworks such as Django and wxPython, in recent endeavours.

I've also been known to be a bit of a Mac elitist — something that didn't go over really well while I was at Microsoft (hey, I was broke and needed employment). What I love about OS X is that it's like the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup of operating systems: UNIX on the inside with a gorgeous and sleek UI coating on the outside. What's not to love?

About this site

Entirely handcrafted using Django, Python, TextMate, Markdown and as much valid XHTML and CSS as I could cobble together (still needs improvement, particular on the accessibility front).

So, couldn't I have used del.icio.us, Flikr, and WordPress for most of this site? Yeah, sure, if I wanted to be boring and predictable. Really, though, most of the work has been an exercise in learning Django and keeping up to date with the latest development code base. So if you arrive at the occasional "server error" page, you'll know who to blame, right?
